The engine

Reson8 gives you the whole signal.

What the string is doing between frames, where the overtones sit, how far the instrument has drifted while you played it — measured natively, drawn at 30 frames per second, nothing copied in the hot loop.

A strobe that is the measurement

No simulation. Each ring compares the signal's phase at a target partial against a reference — the residual angle is the strobe angle, so the display stands dead still exactly when you are in tune.

A spectrum that resolves the bass

A uniform FFT smears E2 into A2. Reson8 runs a 160-bin constant-Q bank — 24 bins per octave, each with its own window — so adjacent bass notes stay separate and peaks land within 0.1 cents.

Strum all six strings at once

Polyphonic analysis returns an independent frequency, cents offset and clarity for every string in the same frame. One strum, six verdicts — no string-by-string picking.

Intonation drift, over time

A ±25-cent trace shows where your pitch has been, not just where it is — long-tone practice for wind players, stability checks for strings, evidence instead of impressions.

A gate that stays dark in a quiet room

The engine tracks your room's ambient floor adaptively and gates on the margin above it, with hysteresis so a decaying note is never cut off mid-ring. Hum and HVAC don't become "notes".

Native to the metal

Dependency-free C++17 does the listening; results cross to the interface as plain structs — zero copies, zero allocation in the hot loop, identical numbers on every platform.

Measured, not assumed.

Inharmonicity varies a hundredfold between a spinet's top octave and a concert grand's tenor — no lookup table can know your piano. Reson8 measures B per key, per instrument, then solves the tuning curve from it by weighted least squares over coincident partials. The stretch comes from your piano's strings, not from a drawn curve.

The design

Materiality

Surfaces are lit, not flat. Panels catch light on their top edge and cast real shadows, so the interface reads as milled parts rather than rectangles.

Phosphor

Glow is reserved for live signal, like an oscilloscope's trace. Static chrome never glows — so your eye is always pulled to the data.

Colour is tuning state

Mint means locked. Amber means close. Red means out. Those three colours are never used for anything else, anywhere in the app — so the most important signal is never ambiguous.
