What we collect

Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, and nothing else. Reson8 has no user accounts, no advertising, and no advertising identifiers. There is no server of ours behind the app: everything that listens and measures ships inside the app itself, and in the web version all of it runs inside your browser tab.

On iOS, Android, in the web version and on this website, Reson8 uses Google Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase in the mobile apps) to record how it is used in aggregate: that the app was opened, roughly how long for, which instrument family or tool was selected, whether the locked parts of the piano workflow were run into or their explanation read, which pages of this site were viewed, and the kind of device, operating system, browser and country the request came from. On the website and in the web version this uses a first-party cookie to tell repeat visits apart. Google processes this data on our behalf under its own privacy policy; we do not receive names, email addresses, precise locations or IP addresses from it, and we do not combine it with anything else because there is nothing else to combine it with.

The iOS and Android apps also report crashes, through Firebase Crashlytics, so that a bug that takes the app down can be found and fixed. A crash report says where in the code the app stopped, what kind of device and operating system version it was running on, which version of Reson8 it was, and how long the app had been open. It does not identify you, and it never contains audio, a recording, a tuning you were working on, or anything you typed. Reports are sent after the fact, on the next launch — the app cannot upload anything while it is in the middle of crashing.

You can keep Google Analytics from measuring your visits to this site and the web version with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking googletagmanager.com in your browser or content blocker.

The macOS, Windows and Linux desktop apps report neither analytics nor crashes: they run entirely offline and send nothing. The free web version is measured by Google Analytics like the rest of this site, but sends no crash reports.

Microphone audio

Reson8 needs microphone access to do its one job: listening to what you play. That audio is analysed locally, in real time, on your device, to detect pitch — it is never recorded to a file, never transmitted anywhere, and never leaves your device. If you use the professional piano tools, the per-instrument measurements you take (per-key inharmonicity, solved tuning curves) are saved the same way: as files on your device, under your control, not uploaded anywhere.

Settings stored locally

A few preferences — your chosen tunings, reference pitch, selected audio device, and similar app settings — are stored locally on your device using the operating system's standard local storage. This data stays on your device; it is not synced to any account or server because there is no account or server.

In-app purchases

Reson8 is free to download. The professional piano suite is unlocked by a single, one-time purchase, handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play billing system. When you buy it, the store processes the transaction and payment details directly — we never see or store your card number, billing address, or any other payment information. The app only learns whether the purchase succeeded, so it can unlock the feature locally on your device.

Children's privacy

Reson8 does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, of any age. The usage statistics described above are anonymous and aggregated, and there is nothing else for us to gather, store, or share about a child — or any other user.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the update will be posted on this page with a new effective date above. Given how little there is to say, we don't expect that to change without a good reason.
